Maintaining confidence in your Security System. Read more »

Maintaining confidence in your Security System.

Although we don't like to admit it, we are all in some way exposed to risks that may result in the urgent request for help whether it be for a medical, fire or duress emergency.

Most home security systems that are connected to an alarm monitoring service are equipped with devices designed to assist with requesting help in the unfortunate event that it is required. As these are not devices used on a day to day basis you want to be confident that when you need them to work, they do.

Could you be certain your system will send a request for help to the security monitoring centre if and when required?

The importance of maintaining your home security system is just as high as maintaining your vehicle. Just as your car should be regularly serviced to ensure pristine working condition, so should your home security system.

Australian Standards (AS2201) recommends that a security system should be regularly maintained by a licensed security alarm technician at least once every twelve months.

Chloe Casey, Signal Security's Maintenance Representative says, “Having your security system maintained regularly has many benefits. A qualified security alarm technician will ensure all wiring and cables are secure as well as testing the life of the main back up battery. Activation of both the internal and external sirens is conducted and smoke detectors are tested using a special aerosol. Most importantly a maintenance check of your home security system will provide confirmation that all devices report to the panel and that all signals are received by the security monitoring centre – in turn, giving you the peace of mind that your alarm monitoring service you are investing in is working as it should.

Nowadays, many insurance companies have a clause in their policies relating to security system maintenance so it is more important than ever to have your home security or business security system functioning properly and the best way to ensure this is though regular maintenance”

As an incentive to have your home security or business security system maintained, Signal is offering a 20% discount on additional equipment purchased at the time of a scheduled maintenance check so call our Customer Care Centre on 1300 73 83 93 and schedule your security system maintenance TODAY!!!

How your Home Security system can save your life! Read more »

How your Security System can save your life!

As winter settles upon us, the need to keep warm with an open fireplace and other heating appliances can increase the risk of home fires dramatically. With household commotion like organising dinner or getting the kids to bed- such appliances can easily be left unattended and the results can be devastating, even fatal.

You may not be aware but Smoke Detectors can be integrated into most existing home security systems and utilise the very same Grade A1 level of alarm monitoring that the security system does.

Home Security Specialist, Sean Ness says "Standard Smoke Detectors are great- when you are home however they are not loud enough to alert neighbours or passers by in your absence. With a monitored Smoke Detector, any fire alarm will trigger full sirens alerting neighbours whilst at the same time reporting the fire emergency through your existing home alarm monitoring service. Within a matter of seconds one of our highly trained monitoring centre operators will respond to the fire signal and dispatch the fire department if required”.

As an incentive for families to add fire warning devices such as Smoke and Heat Detectors to either their new or existing home security systems, Signal is offering a FREE fire pack consisting of a fire extinguisher and blanket with every fire purchase over $150. Call Signal’s Customer Care Centre on 1300 73 83 93 to discuss how easily fire warning devices can be added to your home security system.

NSW Police to charge commercial clients for non-genuine alarms. Read More »

NSW Police to charge commercial clients for non-genuine alarms.

NSW Police Force (NSWPF) has reviewed the effectiveness of its Direct Access Service alarm response policy following its introduction in December 2008. Whilst the strategy has been effective in reducing the number of reported alarm activations by 65%, there has been no improvement in the percentage of non-genuine alarms being reported.

Consequently, NSWPF has advised that effective from 1 June 2010, it will use its powers under Section 209 of the NSW Police Act 1990 to levy a charge of $200 where a member of the NSW Police Force responds to a false alarm on more than one occasion within any period of 28 days.

NSWPF confirms that the charge will in all cases be levied against the client and not the monitoring company, and that only commercial clients will be liable. False alarms originating from residential dwellings will not be invoiced under the new policy.

Notwithstanding, ASIAL can only reiterate the importance of regular maintenance of alarm systems, which can play an invaluable part in reducing the likelihood of a system to generate a false signal. Further, ASIAL strongly advises monitored clients to ensure they are familiar with their alarm call passwords and their correct use.

Multi-million dollar safety boost in QLD budget. Read More »

Multi-million dollar safety boost in QLD budget.

The Beattie Government will enhance the safety of Queenslanders with a $6.6 million Budget boost to security industry standards and a commitment to keep 'thugs' out of the industry.

Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading, Wine Industry Development and Women Margaret Keech said the funding, to be provided over four years, would allow Queensland to develop and implement the toughest security provider laws in Australia.

"Protection of Queenslanders is a priority for the Beattie Government," Mrs Keech said.

"The new laws will set new standards for the industry including increased suitability checks for licensees, licensing previously unregulated sectors of the industry, an industry code of conduct, ongoing training requirements and increased penalties for operating unlicensed, including possible jail for repeat offenders.

"The laws will also cover the technical security industry. This ensures everyone in the industry, from security advisors to those maintaining equipment, are licensed and therefore accountable.
"Security providers ensure our safety in many aspects of our daily lives, from public transport and in our workplaces through to when we have a drink at the pub after work," the Minister said.
